The STROOHM Forest: From e-Credits to Forest Management

b

The e-credit system was introduced to encourage Belgian companies to install charge points for their electric company vehicles. This allows businesses to recoup part of their investment. But STROOHM goes one step further. We invest part of these proceeds in forest management. Locally. Right here in Belgium.

How does it work exactly?

As a reminder,  e-credits are units of value traded on a virtual marketplace. Companies with multiple charge points can receive one e-credit for every kWh charged. These e-credits are then traded with fuel suppliers as part of an initiative to make the fuel sector more sustainable. Companies with charge points can therefore generate additional revenue from these e-credits, helping them recoup part of their investment in charging infrastructure.

But STROOHM takes things a step further...

From e-Credits to Forest Management

At STROOHM, we believe the e-credit system has even greater potential if part of the proceeds is invested in tangible initiatives that make an immediate impact. That is why 20% of the proceeds from every e-credit goes towards preserving forests here in Belgium, with additional financial support from STROOHM itself.

We are proud to announce that we have turned this concept into a concrete reality. Through this initiative, we have acquired 2 hectares of woodland in La Roche-en-Ardenne. The STROOHM Forest. On the banks of the Ourthe.

This means STROOHM is not only contributing to the fight against climate change through its core business, but also making a tangible and immediate difference right here in Belgium.

And this is just the beginning. We will continue our commitment to purchasing more woodland using the proceeds generated through e-credits!

Why are we doing this?

We believe that businesses have a social responsibility and that the charge point sector can and should take the lead. Electric driving is an important step, but it is only the beginning.

Sustainability operates on two levels, and we want to make a difference on both:

  • The environment, immediate impact
Through forest management, we make an immediate contribution to the environment by helping preserve Belgium’s natural lungs. Our forests absorb CO₂ from the air and release oxygen (O₂) back into the atmosphere, directly contributing to air quality.

  • The climate: long-term impact
Our core business is facilitating electrification, and every day we contribute to the continued expansion of electric mobility. Its positive long-term impact on the climate is central to what we do. Forest management also has a long-term climate impact.

In this way, we aim to contribute on several levels to a sustainable future for ourselves and for generations to come.
